2019, the year that was for Meta Media

And what a year it was! After opening their doors on 2 January 2019, Meta Media has proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the agency is a force to be reckoned with in the South African media landscape, now and in the future.

Meta Media is a member of the Nahana Communications Group and a full-service media agency borne in an era of data and technology, built on the premise of creating the agency of the future. At Meta Media, the belief is in the power of the data behind the data, unearthing the truth behind that data – the truth that inspires not only the media decisions, but the insights behind them.

“At Meta Media, we are curious!” says Kagiso Musi, Group Managing Director at Meta Media. “While it may be a very innocuous statement, it has a much deeper meaning to us. We believe in digging deeper. We look deeper to provide solutions based on real insights that give our clients a different perspective, looking beyond the numbers and looking for the story behind the story. We use data to justify our decisions and recommendations and delve deep to understand performance and user behaviour.”

This one-year old agency boasts an impressive clientele list with the likes of Cell C, Nestle, Capitec Bank, Toyota and City of Cape Town. In addition to these household brand names, Meta Media recently scooped the buying portion of the Hollard account. For them media is not just a “gut feel” process but rather a process of applying a level of science to all media buys that enables it to get the best ROI for their clients, across all media platforms.

Despite being just nine months old at the time, Meta Media placed top three at the 2019 MOST Awards in not one but two categories, namely Full-Service Media Agency of the Year 2019 and Overall Media Agency of the Year 2019.

“What makes us particularly proud of these accolades, despite being a brand-new agency, is that these awards are voted for by the media owner sales teams, which means that this is the media industry saying that we are amongst the best of the best,” says Richard Lord, Media & Operations Director at Meta Media. “We are less than a year old but beat out many other large agencies that have been in business for decades!”

Meta Media took its award count even higher in 2019 after winning two awards for media creativity in the radio and OOH campaign categories at the 2019 Amasa Awards for clients Capitec (Radio) and Toyota (OOH). At the 2019 Assegai Awards, two awards were won for Cell C campaigns that delivered exceptional results in the social media and integrated media campaign categories.

Meta Media is a Level 1 B-BBEE contributor being 53% black owned, and more than 40% black female owned. Services offered include traditional media strategy, planning and buying, digital strategy, planning and buying, campaign management, optimization and reporting, Econometric Modelling, research, activations, OOH production, SEO / SEM and an in-house programmatic trading desk.

“All of this has been achieved thanks to an incredible team of media professionals, who are passionate about their clients and their craft,” concludes Quanita Salie, Meta Media Cape Town Media Director. “We set ourselves the benchmark in 2019 and are really looking forward to what this year has in store for us.”
