If you have what it takes to create an award-winning advert under pressure and in the most extreme of conditions – and still come out smiling on the other side – we are looking for you! If you want to test yourself against the best young creative talent in the country for the ultimate prize, read on…
Cinemark, as the official local representative for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, is sponsoring the Film category of the Young Lions competition in South Africa this year. The search is on for teams comprising two young professionals or freelancers (such as an art director and a copywriter), who are currently working in a creative communications, advertising or digital agency, to register on the Cinemark website (www.cinemark.co.za) to enter the 2017 version of the competition. You will have just 48 hours to show us what you are made of.
DATES UPDATED
Due to the current spate of public holidays, Cinemark has announced an extension to the registration date, and has revised the competition dates.
Registrations will now close on Friday, 21 April at 17:00.
The creative brief, which will have a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) angle, will be posted on the Cinemark website at 12:00 noon on Saturday, 22 April 2017, and all completed entries need to be uploaded onto the same website by no later than 12:00 noon on Monday, 24 April 2017. No late entries will be accepted.
“If you consider yourself to be an ambitious young creative, there is no better way to challenge yourself – and gain invaluable professional and personal development in the process – than by entering the Young Lions competition,” says Motheo Matsau, Chief of Marketing and Sales for Ster-Kinekor Theatres.
“You will have just 48 hours from the time that the brief is made public to film, edit and deliver a 60-second commercial. And, if you win the South African competition, this is the challenge you will face all over again in the Cannes Young Lions competition, because you will find yourself winging your way to France to compete against winning teams from across the world in the global event! And, your local winning advert will be shown on our big screens at Ster-Kinekor cinemas across the country.”
“One of the most exciting elements of the annual Cannes Festival for any young creative is the opportunity to compete in the Young Lions competition, which performs an important role in unearthing some of the best young creative talent from around the world,” continues Matsau.
An exciting panel of industry professionals and creatives have been confirmed to judge the entries. They are: media industry guru Jeremy Maggs; Sibusiso (Sbu) Sithole, who is the co-founder and Creative Director at The Odd Number; 2017 Cannes SA judge in the Outdoor category and Chief Creative Officer of TBWA/Hunt/Lascaris Peter Khoury; exciting young creative talent in the form of Nkgabiseng Motau and Mukondi Ralushayi, the co-founders and Creative Directors of creative hub Think; winner of this year’s SAFTAs 11 Young Achiever Award, actor and director Thapelo Mokoena; Rayana Rassool, a Communications for Development specialist for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) South Africa; and representing Cinemark are Motheo Matsau and Lynne Wylie, Head of Marketing.
The team of two young creatives (aged 30 and younger, born on or after 25 June 1986), who win the national competition in their home country, compete at the Cannes Festival for the prestigious honour of being crowned the Young Lions of Cannes 2017. The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and the Young Lions competition take place in Cannes, France, from 17 – 24 June 2017.
This year, Cinemark is sponsoring the Film category of the competition and will fly the winning team to Cannes, courtesy of Air France, to attend the festival and compete in the global competition. The prize comprises: return flights, accommodation during the festival, entry into the Cannes Young Lions competition and a full week’s registration to attend the festival. All other costs, such as visa, transfers and personal items, are for each team member’s own account.
So, what are you waiting for? Register today to enter your winning team combination on the Cinemark website, and get ready for the most intense 48 hours of your life, from 12:00 noon on 19 April… this is how dreams come true!
