New, innovative brand launches into SA’s chocolate market
Confectionary distributor Swiss Diversitas Group (Pty) Ltd, competing internationally in the children’s and family segment, has launched a new, innovative brand in the South African chocolate space, Doctor Chocolate.
With the tag line “Great Taste, Great Fun”, Doctor Chocolate is launching into the local market with three unique product offerings: Doctor Chocolate Original 60g, a hazelnut spread in a unique syringe pack; Doctor Chocolate Magic 66g, a candy coated praline and; Doctor Chocolate Chess 210g, milk and white chocolate chess pieces complete with a foldable chess board.
“Having been in the international market for over seven years – with a presence on three continents – we felt that the time was ripe to bring Doctor Chocolate to South Africa,” says Swiss Diversitas Group Director Nicolas Thoenen.
No stranger to the South African market, Thoenen previously headed up the leading Swiss Premium chocolate brand and grew that brand by +330% from 2011 to 2016 in the country, making it the biggest selling imported chocolate brand at the time.
Doctor Chocolate, meanwhile, is available in South Africa in major supermarkets including Checkers and Clicks. Locally the brand will be partnered with Nontwenhle “Nonts” Mchunu, the country’s first black chocolatier.
Certainly, with the South African chocolate market today worth over R5.5 billion and growing dynamically, Doctor Chocolate aims at hitting the consumer’s sweet spot.Adds Nicolas Thoenen: “It’s become an increasingly competitive space but we are excited. Nontwenhle and I bring some unique dynamics to the brand, from both a commercial point of view and as a chocolatier respectively. We believe Doctor Chocolate’s superior quality, fun approach and well considered price point will resonate well with the South African market.”
In tandem with some major, exciting mall activations and additional investments into traditional and digital advertising, Doctor Chocolate has been on sale in South Africa from mid-February 2019.
