South Africa’s premium entertainment streaming platform, black, was awarded 5 Direct Marketing Association of South Africa (DMASA) Assegai Awards recent edition.
The Assegai Awards acknowledges and awards integrated marketing campaigns that deliver exceptional results. Since its inception, the Assegai Awards have strived to benchmark the South African Direct Marketing industry, by highlighting the best-in-class examples of players in the industry that work towards achieving greatness in their campaigns.
“As a new brand, we are exceptionally proud of the work we have done in this space especially on the eve of our first birthday,” says Precious Nkabinde PR Manager black.
black received the coveted special award for Brand of the Year. The brand was also awarded one bronze and three gold awards for the following campaigns:
- Two Gold Awards for Innovative Solutions on the ‘Timeline Takeover’ and the ‘Boring pre-roll ads’ campaigns
- One Gold Award for Art Direction for ‘The future of entertainment now’ campaign
- One Bronze Award for ‘The future of entertainment now’ online campaign
“In partnership with Joe Public we came up with a consolidated, 360-degree campaign that provided us a sound marketing footprint in the digital space. As a company with a digital focus, it made sense that we use these platforms to our advantage. It’s great to be recognised for our innovation in this arena,” added Nkabinde.
In September black was also awarded three Gold awards at the New Generation Awards for Most Innovative Use of Social Media, Most Innovative Social Media Campaign and The New Gen Digital Brand of the Year Award.
The platform has made fantastic headway in the media industry for a brand that has been in the market for less than a year. In 2017 black won the Stuff Magazine Entertainment App of the Year Award and was nominated as a finalist at the 2018 World Telecoms Awards held in Dubai for an OTT Innovation Award competing with numerous international brands in August.
A lot of work has gone into making black a pioneer in the digital and social media space, because its primary target market lives predominantly on social media.
black is available to any subscriber with an Internet connection. Those on Cell C can enjoy unlimited free black data until 28 February 2019. For the first time in South Africa, customers with Cell C are able to purchase content using mobile prepaid airtime. Cell C has also bundled black into several of its Media Play contracts. Customers on any mobile network can make purchases via debit and credit card.
