AngiieeLings – a passion for editing videos with impact


Video editing is a dream job for Angelo Lings – known best by her signature AngiieeLings – particularly in an environment where she is given creative freedom, and where her work achieves results AngiieeLings joined CBR Productions in October 2017 and is proud of projects she has worked on and the impact they have achieved.

AngiieeLings, 22, was born in Boksburg and raised in Bloemfontein, matriculating from Bloemfontein South High School in 2014. She then moved to Johannesburg and joined AFDA, the film, TV and performance school, where she completed her degree. She says that in high school she didn’t have a fixed idea of the career path she would choose after school, and in fact had been considering forensic science. Then by default she was nudged in the direction of videography in her church. “We were encouraged to choose a department to serve in. I chose the media department because we could dress casually, and in takkies. After a short while I was a camera person and I fast developed a passion for media, and for creating stories with video.”After achieving her AFDA qualification, majoring in Post Production, AngiieeLings joined Wanaya Visuals, editing promos for the documentary series, Brothers and Sisters with Soul on SABC 1. She has also edited a promo and a visual album for actress and house music vocalist, Hloni ‘Ms Dippy’ Padi, and a music video for Daniel Rep.

Joining CBR Productions has opened up a whole new world of editing opportunities for AngiieeLings. Headed by Chace Geyer, Executive Producer, and Devin Risely, Creative Director, also AFDA graduates, the team creates brand videos specifically for social media platforms in the digital age – and AngiieeLings is thriving in the environment. “Everyone on the team is an AFDA graduate, which means we share an excellent work ethic, and we have the same approach to creating videos, working together to ensure the viewer is visually engaged with the video and that the message stays true to the brands we work with.” Brands CBR Productions has worked with include Airbase, Bidvest McCarthy, Carrera, Converse, Edgars, Palladium, Skyy Vodka, The Foschini Group, The Stylista, Sunglass Hut, Sportscene, Diesel, el Jimador, and Levi’s.

AngiieeLings’ favourite recent productions include work for The Foschini Group’s Lookbook, creating content and highly creative videos that incorporated following influencers around through a normal day. Another video that has been successful on the international platform, was for Converse Sneakers, using influencer and musician Alex Hooligan. “We were given freedom to edit and with voice, music, and great visuals, the video turned out very well.”

AngiieeLings says her inspiration for creative editing comes from listening, watching, and engaging with the people she is surrounded by. “Music is a great love of mine and I mix with highly creative and entertaining people a lot of the time, feeding off what they’re doing and saying.”

She describes herself as a Christian woman, enthusiastic and creative, who works well under pressure, doesn’t give up, and works well with everybody. “I am fulfilled with a good edit that satisfies the brands we work with and also satisfies me.”

She is proud of how far she has come in her young life, and has aspirations of being a commissioning editor in the not too distant future. At the moment she is re-reading Eat, Pray, Love: One woman’s search for everything across Italy, India, and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert, and Sour Honey & Soul Food by Billy Chapata. Her favourite movies are Love and Basketball, starring Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps, and About Last Night with Kevin Hart.
